Dr. Yang Yu is a Senior Research Scientist and the Applied Geology Laboratory (AGL) Team Lead at the EERC, where he manages and oversees the operation of the AGL. Dr. Yu leads the lab team in conducting laboratory analyses and experiments on subsurface samples and interpreting laboratory data to support research activities related to improved production of unconventional oil and gas reservoirs, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in unconventional and conventional formations, and subsurface storage of CO2 and/or rich gas. In addition, he develops lab documentation, performs experimental systems design and upgrades, expands lab capabilities and research efforts, and prepares research proposals, reports, and publications. He holds Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University and a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Northeast Petroleum University, Daqing, China. Prior to his position at the EERC, Dr. Yu served as an R&D Project Manager with Porous Materials, Inc., Ithaca, New York.
Dr. Yu’s principal areas of interest and expertise include reservoir engineering, unconventional reservoir development, EOR, and rock and fluid properties analysis. Dr. Yu serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, the Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, SPE Production & Operations, and the International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control, and Applied Nanoscience. He has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed and other professional publications.
