UND's graduate programs serve a central importance to the university's research, teaching and service missions.
We seek to advance graduate education and cultivate a positive environment for scholarly and creative activities and professional development that is integral to the success of graduate students and programs.
- Identify the unique challenges and opportunities for growth of both graduate faculty and graduate students at UND.
- Encourage the ongoing development of a diverse, campus-wide community of scholars that identifies and facilitates opportunities for interdisciplinary and forward-looking approaches to graduate education and career paths.
- Promote internal and external communication and activities to foster ongoing dialogue for graduate students and faculty that encourages collaboration between multiple on and off campus stakeholders.
- Address improving recruitment, retention, and pathways to future opportunities for graduate students with a focused attention on women and students of color.
- Promote public scholarship by encouraging the sharing of research with a wider audience and developing appropriate forums for such sharing.
- Researching important trends, initiatives, assessment metrics, and best practices in graduate education regionally and nationally to actively identify and propose appropriate methods for adding value to graduate education at UND.
Graduate Faculty Advocates
- Dr. Ronald Fevig is an Associate Professor of Space Studies, and serves as the Gradvocate liaison for the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences. Having served as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Space Studies for six years, he is well-acquainted with the needs of both campus and online graduate students. Through these Gradvocate efforts, Dr. Fevig is focused on advancing graduate education at UND, and improving the overall experience of both campus and online UND graduate students.
- The three-part mission of institutes of higher education – discovery, education, and service – all converge in training of graduate students. I have been involved in graduate education for almost 30 years, including as a coordinator of an NSF-sponsored graduate Research Training Group at Michigan State University, and since arriving at UND in 1995, supervisor/mentor of both M.S. and Ph.D. students. I currently serve as the director of graduate studies in Biology and am the Natural Sciences/Math representative on the University’s Graduate Committee. I am committed to supporting opportunities that enhance the experience and benefits to graduate students at the University of North Dakota, not only in my home department, but across the campus. My ultimate goal is to help students achieve their goals, to provide paths to success, and through their accomplishments, to make the world a better place.
- Dr. Neumeyer is currently an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship in the School of Entrepreneurship. His teaching and research interests include new (sustainable) venture and product development, women entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurship (eco)systems. As a SGS advocate, Dr. Neumeyer is interested in helping graduate students develop their professional and entrepreneurship skills and competencies.
- Dr. Katherine Terras is a professor in the College of Education and Human Development. She is the Graduate Director for the Applied Behavior Analysis specialization within the Special Education Program. Dr. Terras teaches and advises master level students, in addition to advising those at the doctoral level. She teaches solely online and has made online teaching and learning her research agenda.
- Dr. Gupta is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He has published over 45 technical papers, 6 patents (granted and pending – US and International), and has given over 20 invited/keynote talks and over 70 contributed presentations in several international, national and local conferences. Dr. Gupta also has an h-index of 21 and 1300 citations. Previously, Dr. Gupta was employed at Rutgers University. Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Pennsylvania State University. Earlier, Dr. Gupta finished his doctoral studies at Drexel University. Dr. Gupta has won several awards like Dean’s Award for the Best Faculty (2016), Global Young Investigator (ECD, ACeRs, 2016), ASM/IIM Lectureship (2016) etc. Dr. Gupta is a passionate educator and has supervised several graduate thesis.
- Chris Nelson is Associate Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and an Associate Professor in the English Department. His research interests include identity politics and issues of representation in minority literatures, as well as the functions and effects of violence in literature. As an advocate for graduate education, he is committed to improving the graduate student experience, further developing the quality and variety of graduate education across campus, and providing a broad range of professional development opportunities for graduate students.
- Dr. Thad Rosenberger is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Biomedical Sciences within the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS). His research and teaching experiences are focused on human metabolism and the understanding of how fatty acid and acetyl-CoA metabolism impacts neurodegenerative diseases. As a SGS advocate, Dr. Rosenberger is interested in further facilitating student achievement in the Biomedical Sciences, Clinical and Translational Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies and Public Health graduate programs. All are essential components of both the SMHS mission and the Universities Long-term Strategic Plan.
- Dr. Ahmed is Associate Dean of Research and Associate Professor in the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines at University of North Dakota. Dr. Ahmed’s background is in epidemiology and biostatistics. He has extensive experience in the development of statistical methods for the design of community-based interventions and the analysis of longitudinal health data. As a SGS Advocate, Dr. Ahmed is interested in facilitating the process of engagement among online and campus students in ways that build a meaningful sense of connection with the college, its departments, and UND.
