Design Thinking is a human-centered, creative problem solving model used to simplify complex challenges.
Steps to design thinking for innovation include empathy, ideation, prototyping and testing.
Design Thinking for Students
The UND Innovation Studio provides opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students from any major to learn and practice human-centered design principles through focused training and high-impact internships. Students strengthen their communication, creativity, problem solving and collaboration skills as they navigate the innovation process.
The Studio consists of a 7- or 14-week training program that provides foundational knowledge and skill building of the design thinking process. Internships are intensive experiences where students apply their training at a local business. Credit and non-credit options are available.
Design Thinking for Business
Organizations need to constantly innovate to maintain their competitive advantage. The Innovation Studio for business is a fee-for-service program to engage trained innovation facilitators and UND students. Activities include facilitated one- to two-day design sprints as well as semester-long internship placements.
