National Residence Hall Honorary Chapter

The National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) Mark Hudson Chapter was founded at the University of North Dakota in 1982.

NRHH is an organization dedicated to residence hall student recognition and service. NRHH values recognition for individuals and organizations who contribute to the advancement of UND Housing. The organization also strives to create an inclusive community that focuses on programming, community service, and leadership development while supporting the vision and mission of the National Association of Colleges and University Residence Halls (NACURH) and Midwest Affiliate of Colleges and University Residence Halls (MACURH).

NRHH makes up only one percent of selected residence hall students that value recognition and service. The following are ways to get involved with NRHH: Attend a NRHH sponsored event, write an "Of The Month" to recognize students and staff dedicated and committed to residence hall living, or volunteer for a NRHH service project.

NRHH members are nominated by faculty, staff, NRHH members, peers, Resident Assistants, Hall Directors, Residence Lfie Coordinators, and more!

Nominees are contacted to submit an application to become a candidate member. Our candidate members participate in member education and learn about NRHH to see if they are a good fit for the chapter. Candidate members that complete membership education and are actively involved in NRHH are invited to be inducted into the Mark Hudson Chapter of NRHH.

Recognitions

Of The Months

Of the Months or OTMs are a type of recognition for the wonderful things happening at UND.

  • OTM winners start at the campus level and could possibly reach regional and National levels.
  • Winning a Regional OTM is a great way for UND to be recognized by the MACURH region and National OTM winners represent not just UND but the whole MACURH region.
  • OTMs have two categories: Individual and program. Individual categories includes writing an OTM for an Advisor, Executive Board Member, First Year Student, Resident Assistant, any UND student, a Residence Life Professional Staff Member, a Student Staff Member and many more. Programming categories include writing an OTM for a Social Program, Educational Program, Community Service Program, Diversity Program or Passive Program. OTMs are submitted and reviewed monthly.

Our Symbols

NRHH logo

The Diamond

The diamond surrounding the letters of the organization and the three interconnected links, the chain of leadership, form the logo of the honorary. The diamond, the world's most precious gem, signified the value and beauty one finds in the residence halls experience.

The Link

The first link of the chain represents caring. leaders are people who care. They are concerned about themselves and others, and are committed to making things better. The second link signifies dedication. Part of a leader's commitment is the dedication to a cause, which they display. Dedication is an important part of the involvement required to be truly effective. The third link represents participation. True leaders participate fully in their academic pursuits, their friendships, their activities, and their lives. Leaders don't sit on the sidelines, but are competent team players. Together the unbroken chain symbolized the membership of NRHH. As leaders we are interconnected as caring and dedicated participants in the community of your university.

Colors

The colors of the honorary are blue and white. The blue symbolizes loyalty: loyalty to purpose and idea. The white signifies a blank page: a page on which a student writes the successes and experiences that fill their days in the residence halls.
