Roommate Selection
Room selection is available after you complete the Room Sign Up Agreement. In order to select a room with a roommate, each person must join a roommate group. Roommate groups can only be used in All Room Selection. If you are planning on signing up for your current room during Same Room Selection, do not join a roommate group.
- Only students who have completed the Room Sign Up Agreement may be selected as part of a roommate group.
- Roommate selections must be made prior to room selection.
- Your roommate group is not complete until all roommate requests are matched. Only fully matched roommate groups can select a room in All Room Selection.
- A student can be removed from a roommate group at any time.
- Once students are "matched" in a roommate group, the person with the best priority number chooses the room during the All Room Selection.
To complete your roommate group each person must complete these steps:
- Log in to Housing Self Service.
- From the Room and Roommate Selection Menu select "Roommates/Suitemates."
- Select the relevant term and click Submit.
- Under Simple Roommate Search enter the full name or email address to search for the
person you want to be in a roommate group with. If the person you are looking for
is not found
- Verify that person has completed the Room Sign Up Agreement.
- Make sure you have input their name or UND email address correctly. Use student's full first name (ex: Christopher instead of Chris).
- Try to search for last name only.
- Once you select your roommate, an email will be sent asking them to accept the request. Roommate requests can be verified in Housing Self Service.
Same Room Selection
Starts: Jan. 11, 10 a.m.
Ends: Jan. 25, 5 p.m.
Same Room Selection is guaranteed only during this time period.
Returning residence hall students have the first chance to return to their same room. In some instances students will not be able to return to their same room. These students will be notified by Housing Staff via email.
If you want your same room AND a new roommate, you will need to decide which is more important, the room or the new roommate. If the room is a priority, select the room during same room and do not match as a roommate group. If a new roommate is most important, you should match with a roommate group and select a room during All Room Selection.
Students may select their same room at any time during the same room selection period once they have completed their Room Sign Up Agreement. If you do not select your same room during this time, there is no guarantee that you will be able to select it during All Room Selection. Once you have selected a room, you will be unable to participate in other room selection processes.
To select your same room:
- Log in to Housing Self Service.
- Under Room Selection click on "Select a Room/Suite."
- You will see your current room. Click on "Select Room."
- Verify your assignment and select "I Agree - Submit my room request."
- Your room selection is done. A confirmation will be sent to your UND email address.
- When making your room selection, you will only see spaces that can accommodate the number of people in your roommate group.
- If you are not able to see any rooms, it means there are no spaces left for the size of your group.
- Try removing students from your roommate group and search for a room again.
All Room Selection
Begins on Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. and will continue in waves until March 31 at 11:59 p.m.
Students who would like a different room for the next academic year will participate in All Room Selection. All Room Selection uses a system where students are given a priority number based on the date the Room Sign Up Agreement was submitted.
- Students with higher priority are able to select a room earlier, meaning they will have more rooms to choose from.
- Students participating in All Room Selection will receive a start date and time based on their priority number.
- Each student will be given 4 minutes to select from all available rooms before the next student is able to select a room. Once a student’s start time has passed, the student may select a room at any time before the end of All Room Selection.
- Students can only select one room assignment during All Room Selection. Room Change Processes will be held at specified times in order to change your room selection.
All Room Selection start times will be emailed to the student's UND email and will also be available in Housing Self Service. Please visit Housing Self Service well in advance of your start time so you may troubleshoot any access problems.
To select your room for next year:
- Log in to Housing Self Service at your given start time.
- Under Room Selection click on "Select a Room/Suite" to be redirected to Online Room Selection.
- You will see a message indicating you are eligible to select a room and will also see if you are part of a Roommate Group.
- Select "Find Available Rooms."
- You will see a list of all available spaces that match the number people in your roommate
group.
- View the Floor Plan to see where rooms are located.
- View the Floor Roster to see who else has chosen a room on that floor. (Please note that not all vacant rooms are available for selection.)
- When you have found a room, click on "Select Room" or "Select Suite."
- Place all the students in your Roommate Group in the correct bed assignments
- When finished, select "I Agree - Submit My Room Selection."
- Room selection is now complete for you and the students in your roommate group. A confirmation will be sent to the UND email address for you and other students in your Roommate Group.
Troubleshooting
