Space Utilization Analysis and Planning
In advance of a formalized master plan, UND will develop an analysis and assessment of classrooms, labs and student service areas to improve the campus' learning and student service spaces. This effort will review, document, assess and plan incremental improvements to refresh classrooms and student service spaces based on existing conditions, programs and proposed future growth.
The goal of this analysis and assessment is to establish baseline knowledge and develop procedures to:
- Optimize space utilization (both classroom and building use),
- Improve building energy and space efficiency,
- Enhance learning effectiveness and program quality by optimizing program locations relative to technological attributes, and
- Advance student success.
The intention of this analysis and planning process is not to circumvent a larger, more robust and visionary capital budget master planning process, but to provide an incremental resource that gives clear guidance to improve existing space. Moreover, through this process UND intends to develop a better understanding of existing space use and classroom attributes, formulate standards for better stewardship of existing buildings, and reflect alignment to current and potential academic programs.
