UND President Kelley appoints Provost search committee members
University of North Dakota President Robert Kelley has appointed members of a search committee for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Paul LeBel, who has served as Interim Provost since 2009 and Provost since 2010, has announced that he will step down June 30, 2013.
The committee will be co-chaired by Lori Reesor, Vice President for Student Affairs, and Jim Mochoruk, Chair-Elect of University Senate and Professor of History.
Academic Affairs representatives are Dean Kathryn Rand (Law School), Connie Gagelin (Provost's office), Wilbur Stolt (Libraries), and Ike Schlosser (Biology chair). Faculty representatives from the Division are Beth Bjerke (Aviation), Jeff Sun (Educational Leadership), Anne Kelsch (History and Office of Instructional Development), Joseph Hartman (Geology & Geological Engineering), and Dave Yearwood (Technology).
Representatives from across campus are: Gwen Halaas (School of Medicine and Health Sciences), Margaret Myers (Finance and Operations), Mark Hoffmann (Research and Economic Development), Angie Carpenter (Student Affairs), and DeAnna Carlson Zink (UND Alumni Association and Foundation).
Student representatives are Logan Fletcher (Student Body President) and Shuchita Patwardhan (graduate student in Chemical Engineering); alumni will be represented by Rick Burgum (alumnus and former chair of UND Foundation Board). Staff support will be provided by Sandy Rios (President's Office).
Paul LeBel
Paul A. LeBel was named permanent Provost in 2010 after having served on an interim basis since2009 at the request of President Kelley. From 2004 to 2009, LeBel was Dean of the School of Law.
LeBel is a 1977 graduate of the University of Florida College of Law, and earned his B.A. in American Literature from George Washington University in 1971. He served in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1975.
Before coming to North Dakota, he served as Dean and on the faculty of the Florida State University College of Law. He was on the faculty of the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary from 1982 to 1997, and the University of Alabama School of Law from 1978 to 1982. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Illinois and the University of Richmond.
