Nontraditional Student Recognition Week
November 4-8, 2013
"Nontraditional Student Recognition Week” is a national celebration held in the first week of November each year by ANTSHE, Association of Nontraditional Students in Higher Education. In celebration, the Student Success Center and Adult Re-entry program would like to recognize the support many campus departments provide and celebrate nontraditional student success.
Nontraditional Student Winner
One nominated student will be recognized as the Nontraditional Student of the Year. This individual will be awarded a $500 scholarship to be used in the Spring semester and they will also receive the annual Nontraditional Student Recognition Award at the Memorial Union Leadership Award Ceremony in May.
Adult Re-Entry Open House/Pizza: Nov 5 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
Join us to celebrate Nontraditional Students! Students are invited to stop in for some pizza and refreshments. Jessica Rosencrans, the Adult Re-Entry coordinator will be available to answer any questions regarding nontraditional students, programs, and events.
Coffee, Cookies & Conversation: Nov 7 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Coffee, Cookies & Conversation is an event that is held throughout the semester specifically for Nontraditional Students. Staff, faculty and traditional students are also welcome to attend. The event is an informal gathering of nontraditional students and it will be held at the Memorial Union 3rd floor lounge. Coffee and cookies will be provided.
Veteran's Information Fair: Nov 7 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
The Adult Re-Entry program will have a table at the information fair. This event will be held in the Memorial Union from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Jessica Rosencrans, the Adult Re-Entry coordinator will be available to assist service members with general questions regarding nontraditional students, programs, and events.
Departments who host or sponsor a nontraditional student activity or event during this week should contact our office, so we can spotlight nontraditional student efforts at UND. Please see the UND Calendar for the events held this week!
In addition, nominations are being sought to recognize a non-traditional student on our campus and highlight his/her successful efforts in academic commitment, leadership, and personal challenges he/she has contributed on the way to reaching his/her academic goals. Please take the time to nominate a student in your department for the “Nontraditional Student Recognition” award.
Nominations are due by noon on Friday, October 25 2013.
This year, the award winner will receive a $500 scholarship and they will receive the annual Nontraditional Student Recognition Award at the Memorial Union Leadership Award Ceremony in May.
Send completed nomination forms to Stop 7143 or email to email@example.com.
Candidates must be considered a non-traditional student, which primarily includes currently enrolled adult learners in an undergraduate program who may have one or more of the following characteristics: 25 years or older, returning/re-entry student, student with a spouse and/or dependent, or military/veteran student. Only nominees continuing at UND for the Spring 2014 semester will be considered.
Please submit your Nontraditional Student Recognition Award nomination based on the four questions below:
1. What is unique about this nontraditional student?
2. What is outstanding about this student’s performance?
3. What challenges has this student successfully met as a “non-traditional” student while attending UND?
4. Give examples of how this student serves as a role model for his/her classmates, instructors, coworkers, or family.
Please show your support and appreciation! For questions, contact Jessica Rosencrans, Adult Re-Entry Coordinator, at (701) 777-2117 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
