University Senate
The University Senate serves as the legislative body for the University of North Dakota.
The University Senate also provides a mechanism for constructive dialogue between faculty, staff, students, and administrators. And, through its committees, the University Senate provides the structure through which these four groups collaboratively govern the institution.
Monthly Meetings
The Senate meets on the first Thursday of each month during the academic year at 3:30 p.m. via Zoom. Voting members of Senate should receive an email to participate as a panelist with the Zoom link. All are welcome to attend Senate meetings.

Governance
The UND University Senate has served since 1961 as the body to which formal legislative powers are delegated. The State Board of Higher Education has final authority in all matters affecting the University that are decided by the University Council and Senate.
The Board entrusts the execution of all its plans and policies to the President in consultation with the faculty and other such officers as the President may choose.
About University Senate
The University Senate meets monthly during the academic year, and has authority that includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
- Requirements for admission to UND and related questions.
- Requirements for degrees and certificates.
- The determination of curricula, authorization of new courses of study and changes in courses of study.
- Questions of scholarship and attendance, coordination of outside activities, class standing and credits, examination schedules, and the institution's catalog and calendar.
- Institutional prizes, honors, and honorary degrees.
- General relations and interests of students.
- The general policies of the library and extended learning.
- Acting as a consultant to the President of the University.
