Priority application deadline & confirmation tuition deposit
March 1 Priority Application Deadline
Beginning in the fall 2015 entry term, UND will administer a March 1 priority application deadline for incoming freshmen. Currently, 91 percent of UND's freshmen already apply prior to this date, so there will be very little impact. Another great advantage of the March 1 priority deadline is that it will match our scholarship deadline and Honors Program application deadline. Using one date will be so much easier to remember when speaking with students about UND deadlines. In addition, students can and will still be encouraged to apply and be admitted after the priority deadline (space permitting).
May 1 Confirmation Deposit
UND also plans to implement a new $200 confirmation tuition deposit for students to reserve space in the incoming class. This new tuition deposit will have a May 1 deadline (national reply date) and will also work as the students' first payments directly toward tuition. As with the application deadline, students can and will be encouraged to confirm their spaces with the tuition deposit after May 1 (space permitting). Please know that we don't want to create any undue barriers for students, so if there are students who can't afford the $200 deposit but who wish to enroll at UND, we will have a deferral process in place. As counselors, you know the students much better than we do, so we may contact you to verify financial need for students.
We're working through some final details and hope that the confirmation deposit will begin with the fall 2015 entry term, but we can't confirm that date yet. We will make that final decision this summer and will communicate with counselors, students and families immediately when the fall school year begins.
Benefits to Students
By instituting a priority application deadline and a confirmation deposit, we'll be able to work more closely with our academic units to help project the number of students enrolling in each major and to prepare the number of academic courses for them. In addition, having students apply and confirm their attendance earlier will help us to communicate all of the next steps (financial aid, on-campus housing, orientation, etc.) in a more timely manner.
