Biography
Teaching responsibilities of Barbara Lewis (Music Education: Ph.D in Music Education from Indiana University, M.Ed. in Music Education from the Pennsylvania State University; MA in History from Washington College; B.M. in Music Education from Grove City College) include graduate and undergraduate courses in music education, supervision of student teachers, and supervision of Independent Studies and Dissertations. Prior to coming to UND, Dr. Lewis taught public school, Grades K-8 in Maryland. She holds certificates in Feldenkrais Training (Institute for Movement Studies) and Orff (Memphis State University and Westminster Choir College). She has published a number of quantitative and historical research articles in refereed journals in the areas of movement-based instruction and music listening. She has also participated in numerous juried research and elementary music presentations and has been the recipient of several University of North Dakota grants for travel, course development, and research. Dr. Lewis has most recently been active as a historical researcher in the area of Colonial music and education in Philadelphia.
