Biography
James R. (Jim) Duzan is the Principal Intellectual Property Advisor at the EERC, where he serves on a team of commercialization and technical experts who manage intellectual property for EERC technologies. His responsibilities include handling the analysis, evaluation, and disposition of invention disclosures by EERC scientists and engineers; obtaining appropriate protection of inventions by working with outside counsel, assisting with drafting and negotiating commercialization agreements, and maintaining client relationships and monitoring license compliance. Prior to his position at the EERC, Mr. Duzan was a Partner and Managing Partner in the Intellectual Property law firm of TraskBritt, P.C., Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for Halliburton Energy Services. He received his M.B.A. degree from Oklahoma City University, completed classes of the Patent Law Master's Program at the George Washington University School of Law, received his J.D. degree from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, and received his B.S.M.E. degree from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Mr. Duzan’s principal areas of interest and expertise include intellectual property matters, trade secret matters, noncompetition agreement matters, employee agreement matters, export control matters, and foreign corrupt practice act matters.
