Biography
John E. Hunt is a Geoscientist and CCS MRV/MVA Coordinator at the EERC, where he works with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, business professionals, and EERC stakeholders to solve challenges related to incremental oil recovery, unconventional oil recovery, geothermal energy, gas storage, and CO2 capture, utilization, and geologic storage. In this position, he supports the development of compliance monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) and monitoring, verification, and accounting (MVA) plans for financial incentive and permitting programs associated with emerging carbon capture and storage (CCS) and other environmental, social, and governance (ESG) projects being developed in the United States and Canada.
Mr. Hunt is a licensed Professional Geologist and holds an M.S. degree in Geology from Oklahoma State University and a B.S. degree in Geology from Brigham Young University. Prior to his position at the EERC, he worked for Chesapeake Energy as a petroleum geologist, providing geotechnical assessments for exploration and operations-based projects within the U.S. Midcontinent region.
Mr. Hunt’s principal areas of interest and expertise include characterization of tight shaly sand and carbonate reservoirs, resistivity reversals, and conodont biostratigraphy. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and the Oklahoma City Geological Society (OCGS) and has coauthored several professional publications.
