Dr. Mei-Chuan Lin, a native of Taiwan, is an active music pianist/educator. She has given numerous performances in Taiwan, the United States, and Austria. Lin performed at the top stage: Taiwanese National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center (National Theater & National Concert Hall) several times as the Music Star of Colleges. She has worked extensively in recitals and masterclasses with renowned musicians, including Dr. Daniel Thrower (Trumpet), Dr. Todd Goranson (Saxophone), and Dr. Cody Hunter (Bassoon). Recently, Dr. Lin devoted herself to calling for the importance of left-hand practice in piano. Her article on the left-hand technique was posted at the Gi-Chi Newspaper in Taiwan on Aug. 2021.
She was granted the teaching credential: National College Instructor License from the Taiwan Ministry of Education since 2001. Lin was also selected as the music director of the Pingtung County Association of Music Facilitators in 2014 in Taiwan. Dr. Lin has been a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda since 2017. She recently was selected as a member of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) - Taiwan Section since Aug. 2021, which is one of the top music organizations in Taiwan.
Dr. Lin was awarded a master’s degree in piano performance from a prestigious music school in the United States, the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Dr. Thomas Hecht (Head of piano studies/Youg Siew Toh Conservatory, Singapore). She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education/Piano Pedagogy at the University of North Dakota in the studios of Dr. Katherine Norman Dearden (Music Education) and Dr. Nariaki Sugiura (Piano). She now teaches at the University of North Dakota, where she has served as a collaborative pianist and teaching assistant professor in the piano area since Aug. 2019.
