Sonia Doulamis is the Health Promotion Coordinator at the University of North Dakota. She joined the staff at UND in September of 2017. In her role she works with both the Health Promotion team, Peer Educators, and Culinary Corner. Anything under the umbrella of general health & wellness, Sonia covers. She helps create, execute, and evaluate various health promotion initiatives based on the need of the campus. Two of the largest events held on campus include the Sexual Health Carnival & De-Stress Fest. She also works closely with other entities on campus, including, but not limited to: Athletics, Greek Life, and Housing to coordinate special health promotion programming. Sonia works to create new and innovative recipes to help the UND community eat better. She works closely with the Culinary Corner instructors to ensure that the food created is appealing yet nutrient dense, all while ensuring that the presentation of the class is enjoyable and informative.
Prior to UND Sonia worked as a long-term substitute in Tyngsboro, MA teaching Health & Wellness and computers to students aged Pre-K through Eighth grade. In addition to teaching she officiated high school cross country meets and served as a Track & Field coach.
Sonia’s passion for collegiate health & wellness stemmed from her experience working with the Virginia Tech Sports Nutrition Department as an intern under the Director of Sports Nutrition. There she helped student athletes learn about food choices that would optimize their performance, while also helping them understand how to adjust to life after their athletic career was over.
Sonia obtained her Master in Public Health – Public Health Education (2016) and Bachelor of Science in Human Development (2014) from Virginia Tech. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of North Dakota.
Originally from Lowell, MA, Sonia is an avid Boston/New England sports fan. A proud Hokie alum, you can find Sonia sporting maroon and orange on the weekends and cheering on her favorite teams. In her free time: Sonia can be found running around town with her dog, participating in local races, doing yoga, playing volleyball, or just being active.
