Biography
Dr. Sougata Roy received B.Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2010 from Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, India. He received M.Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2012 from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras with specialization on Manufacturing & Precision Engineering. Then he worked as a manager for a year at Fuel Injector Development Team in Cummins Fuel Systems (R&D) India. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2018 from Iowa State University. After his Ph.D., he worked in Advanced Materials Processing Group and Deposition Science & Technology Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 2 years as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of North Dakota as a tenure track Assistant Professor in Fall 2020. Dr. Roy's research interests include tribology, surface engineering, failure analysis, rolling contact fatigue, metal additive manufacturing, ionic liquid and nanofluid lubrications. Dr. Roy is the Director of ‘Advanced Manufacturing and Tribology Laboratory’ and co-Director of 'Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Initiative' by College of Engineering & Mines at UND. He received several fundings from State and Federal agencies (over $1.9 million as PI and co-I) to develop a sustainable research program based on his area of interests at UND.
