Biography

Stephanie Homstad joined the Social Work Department faculty in 2017.  She received her Bachelor’s in Social Work with a minor in Psychology in 2006 and completed her Master’s in Social Work in 2007 from the University of North Dakota.  Before joining the UND Social Work Department, she practiced social work as a Family Preservation Case Manager with Grand Forks County Social Services for over 8 years.  Her practice experience focused on assessing safety for children remaining in the parental home, connecting families with services to reduce the risk of future abuse and/or neglect, and decreasing the need for children to be removed from parental custody and placed into the foster care system.  Prior to child welfare work, she worked as a Support Coordinator serving individuals with developmental and physical disabilities living within the community.

In her role as the Child Welfare Stipend Coordinator, Stephanie supports students interested in careers in child welfare through IV-E Child Welfare stipends and the National Child Welfare Workforce (NCWWI) grant.

As the Distance Education Director, Stephanie guides students in the MSW Foundation and Concentration Distance Programs as a preliminary advisor.  She also collaborates with the MSW and BSSW Directors to support students in the online programs.

Stephanie is married and lives with her husband and two daughters in Grand Forks.  She is an animal lover with 3 dogs and a cat and enjoys drawing, reading, and being outdoors.
