Strategic Programming & Initiatives
We work closely with higher education, community, and industry leaders around the world to develop and support accessible, engaging, and innovative educational opportunities for UND students.
Our goal is to increase access to education by providing opportunities that address students’ interests and needs and prepare them for current and emerging career opportunities. We work to foster a welcoming and inclusive university community on-campus and online so all leaners have the opportunity and support to realize their full potential.

Current Initiatives
Unify America College Bowl
Providing students with opportunities to participate directly in civic decision-making with students from different schools with different political leanings or backgrounds. To date, approximately 200 UND students have participated in a one-on-one guided conversation about big goals for our country and their experiences have been positively eye-opening!
Work-Based Learning
Collaborate with faculty to embed work experience and work-based projects into students' courses and programs. These experiences and projects are innovative ways to strategically provide students the opportunity to solve real-world problems by cooperating with companies and other employers.
Academic Partnerships
Explore and help create and manage academic partnerships with other institutions including colleges and universities as well as consortia and other educational entities for the purpose of expanding opportunities for UND faculty, staff, and students.
Innovative Learning
Pilot projects exploring innovative engagement and learning processes in the context of predicting student success in higher education. Current projects include virtual learning communities for students, academic success coaches, online international learning experiences, and predictive uses of student interactions within Learning Management Systems.

Serving Our Communities

Meet the Vice Provost for Strategic Programming & Initiatives
As Vice Provost of Strategic Programming and Initiatives, Dr. Holm and his team work closely with higher education and community leaders to develop and support educational opportunities that increase access, meet student demand, and address the state’s workforce needs. In addition, he collaborates with UND Finance on strategic financial modeling for academic units and services. Special initiatives in his unit include:
- Providing safe havens for scholars at risk
- Embedding work-integrated learning into courses and programs
- Providing online international learning experiences
- Developing better student support structures
- Providing faculty with resources for providing engaging educational opportunities in multiple delivery modalities
UND provides educational opportunities in diverse ways, meeting learners where they’re at and not forcing them into a one-size-fits-all experience. We know that learning and career development are lifelong activities, and, to be successful, different learners need different types of program access, delivery, and support structures.
Our goal is to provide each unique learner with the experiences they need to be successful now and in the future.Vice Provost Jeff Holm
