The Minnesota Vikings will award a $10,000 "Vikings + UND Scholarship" to one deserving student interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree at The University of North Dakota.

The scholarship is available for an incoming freshman in 2013 and the scholarship recipient will be selected from applicants based on their high school GPA and standardized test scores, as well as a 1,000-word personal statement highlighting their career goals, achievements, overcoming adversity and what the opportunity to study at UND would mean to their future. Applications will be accepted at UND.edu/Vikings beginning August 1, 2012 through December 15, 2012.

The scholarship recipient and family will be in attendance for the December 30, 2012, Vikings game vs. Green Bay and the scholarship will be awarded during pre-game activities at Mall of America Field.

Scholarship Requirements:

• Must have a 3.25 GPA or higher.
• Must have a 24 ACT or 1110 SAT score or higher.
• Completed essay.

To be eligible for the Presidential Scholarship, students must be a  new freshman admitted to the University by February 5, 2013.

The UND Presidential Scholarship will be reviewed based on high school grades (GPA) and ACT or SAT scores received by February 5, 2013. GPA and test scores received after February 5, 2013 will not be reviewed or re-evaluated.

Students who submit their Admission's application, high school transcript, and or test scores after February 5, 2013 will not be evaluated.

There is no separate application required for this scholarship. Students who are selected for the UND Presidential Scholarship will receive a separate notification from the Student Financial Aid office via the US mail and email address listed on the Admission's application.

Eligibility:

• National Merit Finalist
  • $20,000 ($5,000 per year for four consecutive undergraduate years, payable in equal amounts each semester if all renewal criteria are met). Each installment currently represents nearly 100% of the current North Dakota resident tuition rate for a full-time student at UND.
  • In addition to the Presidential Scholar award, National Merit Finalists sponsored by UND will receive an annual stipend of $1,000 per year from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
• 3.65 unweighted GPA or above (or minimum battery average GED score of 610) and 32-36 composite ACT score or 1400-1600 math & reading combined SAT score:
  • $12,000 ($3,000 per year for four consecutive undergraduate years, payable in equal amounts each semester if all renewal criteria are met).
• 3.65 unweighted GPA or above (or minimum battery average GED score of 610) and 29-31 composite ACT score or 1290-1390 math & reading combined SAT score:
  • $10,000 ($2,500 per year for four consecutive undergraduate years, payable in equal amounts each semester if all renewal criteria are met).

The 2013-14 Transfer Student Scholarship application is closed.

Students must enroll full-time (12 or more credit hours each semester) for the 2013-14 academic year.

The offer will be based on the GPA for all credits transferred to UND, as calculated by the UND Registrar's Office. Students who transfer in more than 125 credits will not be considered.

3.90-4.00 GPA:

$2,000 ($1,000 per year for two consecutive undergraduate years, payable in equal amounts each semester if all renewal criteria are met).

3.50-3.89 GPA:

$1,000 ($500 per year for two consecutive undergraduate years, payable in equal amounts each semester if all renewal criteria are met).

Scholarship Requirements:

• Be a dependent child (natural, adoptive, foster, or step-child) of a benefited staff member who has been employed by UND for a minimum of one year at the time of the application deadline;
  • Dependent shall be defined according to the U.S. Department of Education Financial Aid Student Guide. A student is dependent only if he/she can answer “no” to all of the following:
    • I am 24 years or older as of January 1 the year of application;
    • I am married;
    • I am enrolled in a graduate or professional (law or medical school) program; 
    • I have legal dependents other than a spouse;

North Dakota Board of Nursing Scholarship-Loan

The North Dakota Board of Nursing Scholarship-Loan Program provides financial assistance to students who have been accepted into a nursing education program approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Student recipients must be citizens of the United States as well as North Dakota residents who demonstrate financial need.

The award is considered a loan which may be converted to a scholarship through nursing employment in North Dakota after completion of the nursing program.

Student recipients must sign a promissory note for the award received. The promissory note must also be signed by a co-signer who must be approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.

The interest rate is 9% per year on the unpaid balance if the recipient does not complete the nursing program or if the loan is converted to a scholarship and the employment obligation is not completed. The conversion rate is one dollar per hour of employment.

Students may receive an award of up to $1,000 per year. Undergraduate students are limited to $2,000 over a two year period.

Recognizing the educational benefit of a diverse student population, the University of North Dakota has adopted a tuition waiver program. Special emphasis of this policy is to recruit, assist, and retain enrolled members of federally recognized American Indian tribes and Alaska Natives and Villages, American Indian graduates of tribally-controlled community colleges in North Dakota, all other under-represented groups, and economically disadvantaged students.

The 2013-14 application and documentation deadline is April 15, 2013. Awards will be based on documentation received as of that date.

Eligibility

For the purposes of the Undergraduate Cultural Diversity Tuition Waiver, cultural diversity is defined as anyone who comes from the following under-represented groups:

• Native American/American Indian
• Alaskan Native
• African American/Black
• Asian American/Pacific Islander
• Hispanic American/Latino
• Multiracial/Multiethnic (from the above categories)
• Economically Disadvantaged (see Documentation Requirements below for more information)

Applicants must:

• be a U.S. Citizen;
• be admitted to the University of North Dakota beginning Fall 2013;
• not have previously attended the University of North Dakota or have not attended UND for at least three consecutive years;
• be pursuing a first baccalaureate degree;
• be planning to enroll at UND as a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours per semester);
• have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 (on a 4.00 scale) - based on high school grades or college transfer credit OR minimum GED score of 42 in each category or a composite score of 52;
• not be receiving funding from another program or programs which pay full tuition, unless the program reallocates their funding to other educational costs. Applicants who receive funding from programs that do not pay tuition or pay only a part of tuition may receive the Cultural Diversity Tuition Waiver, however, the amount of the tuition waiver may not exceed the amount of unpaid tuition.

Documentation Requirements

Applicants must provide the requested documentation for ALL applicable special emphasis areas below:

• The applicant is an individual historically under-represented as defined above.  Eligibility will be based on the student's race/ethnicity as reported on the UND Admission Application. 
• The applicant is an enrolled member of the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe, Three Affiliated Tribes, Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, or Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. Please provide documentation of tribal enrollment.
• The applicant is a graduate of a North Dakota Tribal College. Please provide documentation of graduation—not necessary if already submitted to the UND Admissions Office.
• The applicant is an individual historically under-represented and a graduate of a North Dakota high school. Please provide documentation of graduation—not necessary if already submitted to the UND Admissions Office.
• The applicant (and his/her family, if dependent) is considered economically disadvantaged. This is defined as persons who have a total family contribution not to exceed 25% of North Dakota resident tuition for the previous year based upon the federally prescribed need analysis formula. Submission of the 2013-14 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required (available after January 1, 2013).

Amount of Waivers

• Waivers will not exceed the amount of North Dakota resident tuition. Tuition waivers do not include student fees, flight fees, application fees, books, room, board, or other costs of attendance.
• Partial waivers may be awarded. However, the total dollar amount of all waivers in a given year may not exceed the dollar amount allocated at the University of North Dakota.
• Applicants who receive funding from programs that do not pay tuition or pay only a part of tuition may receive the Cultural Diversity Tuition Waiver, however, the amount of the tuition waiver may not exceed the amount of unpaid tuition.

Duration of Award

• Generally, awards are made for the academic year. Awards may be made for a shorter duration. Second and subsequent semester funding (excluding summer) is contingent upon meeting renewal criteria.
• Recipients will be limited to a maximum of five years as an undergraduate student.

Limitation

Cultural Diversity Tuition Waivers may not be used for offerings of the Division of Continuing Education (i.e. Correspondence Study, Extension, telecommunication courses, non-credit activities, etc.) or for certificate programs.

Student Financial Aid is no longer accepting applications for the UND Returning Student Scholarship.

The UND Returning Student Scholarship application was available starting January 1, 2013. The application deadline was March 15, 2013. Students are encouraged to apply early. *Students that do not complete the application by the deadline will not be considered for the scholarship.

The following undergraduate scholarship is for students who are currently enrolled at UND and have NOT earned a bachelor's degree.

This scholarship is a one year award.

Eligibility Information

Students must:

• be pursuing a first bachelor's degree
• have earned less than 125 credit hours

• be enrolled full-time (a minimum of 12 credit hours) during terms in which the scholarship is received

The National Science Foundation has awarded to the University of North Dakota Science Team a grant to support a scholarship program for students in biology, chemistry, geography and mathematics. The goal is recruiting and providing support for talented students with financial need who are completing a major in sciences.

The US MASTER scholarship program will provide financial support for up to 4 years (if renewal criteria are satisfied) covering tuition & fees with support of up to $10,000 a year, depending on the applicant's financial aid eligibility and qualifying selection/eligibility criteria.

• Student must complete the 2013-14 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the priority application date and show financial need.
• Student must be a direct blood descendant of an honorably discharged Army or Navy veteran of World War I.

This scholarship is a one year award, however, students may reapply. The award amount is variable.

The Leslie and Marjorie Duncan Memorial Scholarship is available to University of North Dakota students. This scholarship of significant magnitude will be awarded to qualified candidate(s) who have:

• A hometown in North Dakota; Pembina or Cavalier Counties are given first consideration.
• Graduated from a North Dakota High School.
• Proven record of sound academic achievement.
• Interest in engineering, the sciences, education and nursing.
• Completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• Primary consideration to freshmen; any grade level encouraged to apply.

The UND Disability Services for Students office has a listing of opportunities available to pre-freshmen, new transfer students and currently enrolled UND students. Applicants must have a disability.

Employees, their spouse and dependents are eligible for a tuition waiver.  More information is available through Human Resources.

Federal and State regulations require the University to coordinate and review all educationally related awards a student is receiving, including this tuition waiver, in determining their eligibility for need-based federal, state, and institutional aid.

This coordination must happen even if the need-based aid has already been disbursed to the student. In general, the combination of all awards cannot exceed a student’s financial aid need. If it does, need-based aid must be adjusted, normally reducing the student's loan burden or work-study obligation. 

Most waivers are granted to assist with the same costs that are covered by financial aid, such as tuition, fees, room or board.  Since a student may not receive assistance in excess of the budget for these costs, a waiver may trigger a revision of the financial aid.

• Note: if financial aid has already been disbursed to the student, the student may owe UND for the amount of financial aid that was adjusted due to the addition of the waiver award.
