2025-26 Co-Sponsored Events Grant Program

Apply for a co-sponsored events grant to reach identity or organization-specific graduate student groups.

The Graduate School considers formal requests from University of North Dakota units, faculty, and registered graduate student organizations for small discretionary grants to co-sponsor social events that encourage community and engagement among graduate students.

  • Awards will cover 50% of the total event cost, up to the awarded amount. Awards will be no more than $2,000.
    • Examples of acceptable expenses include food, event supplies, duplication/printing, parking, and space reservation costs.
    • Reimbursed expenses must have been paid with university funds.
    • Alcohol and salary related expenses will not be covered.
  • The goal is to reach the diverse needs of our graduate student populations, as well as to develop a sense of belonging, community, and engagement among graduate students. Events that include a component that fosters community and engagement among graduate students, are types of events that may qualify under the grant program.
    • It is encouraged that the event be open to graduate students from across multiple colleges or programs.
    • Examples of graduate student activities that could be offered include, but are not limited to: social mixers, community outings, wellness activities, field trips, service projects, seminars, conferences, etc.
    • Graduation related events will not be considered due to the grant program's focus on engagement and community among graduate students. The School of Graduate Studies hosts a commencement open house each semester and all graduate students are invited to attend.

Apply

Departments will be limited to one grant per semester. Applications will only be considered for the current academic year.

Applications must be submitted a minimum of 4 weeks prior to the event in accordance with the following criteria (applications submitted less than 4 weeks in advance will not be considered). The application will ask that you provide:

  1. Event details, including date, time, location, and purpose
  2. Projected event budget and details
  3. Department approval

Partnering Department Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all logistical pieces of the event (e.g. develop event agenda, order catering, space reservations, speakers, host event day activities, complete safety and other required forms, parking, etc.)
  • Develop and implement marketing for their event.
    • Acknowledge the School of Graduate Studies' sponsorship by using the provided logos on all digital and printed marketing materials.
    • Recognize the School of Graduate Studies' sponsorship during the event (e.g. announcements, slide decks, program materials, etc.)
  • Provide an interview with the Graduate Studies feature writer within 3-5 days of the event.
  • Submit an event closeout report to the Graduate School for payment processing after the event.

It is recommended that on-campus events be hosted at the Gershman Graduate Center unless the building cannot accommodate the event. Questions about space reservations can be directed to the Gershman Graduate Center at UND.gershmancenter@UND.edu.
