More states and organizations are falling in line with the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) consensus model, requiring APRNs who practice in acute care settings to be acute care trained and certified. Completion of this gerontology certificate program will prepare the APRN to sit for acute care certification, thus aligning the APRN’s formal training, certification and practice population. In obtaining dual certification, the APRN becomes more marketable.

Career Opportunities

Overall, acute care certified nurse practitioners are the highest paid compared to other certifications with an average salary of $157,580 annually.

  • The top clinical focus areas of NPs certified in adult-gerontology acute care are critical care, cardiovascular and hospitalist.
