Art Galleries at UND and Beyond
The Memorial Union Gallery brings art right to the heart of campus, making art gallery visits easy for students at UND. Opened in 2021, the mission of The MUG is to provide the Department of Art & Design students, faculty, and visiting artists with professional exhibition support. This 1200+ square foot gallery features contemporary fixtures and lighting as well as an open floorplan which can accommodate a variety of exhibition mediums and setups. It is located on the main level of the Union, behind the fireplace. Staffed by students, new exhibitions are installed approximately every 90 days.
Officially launched in 2019, this space was designed to bring curated exhibitions to the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the school. While the building itself is one of the more prominent locations of the Living Art Museum initiative, the second floor art gallery hosts a rotation of exhibitions that have ranged from international art icons such as Matisse and Warhol, to regional favorites like Jackie McElroy and Paul Barr. Visitors to the School can also take part in a self-guided art tour. Open during regular business hours.
Arts for Vets is a non-profit program based out of Grand Forks, ND. Its mission is to create a space for military veterans and their families/friends to create art. Established in 2021 through a partnership with Arts for Vets, the Columbia Hall Atrium and connecting hallways are filled with art by regional artists through the Arts for Vets program. From music to visual art, this group has created an impact on their communities and beyond. The Columbia Hall Atrium is one of multiple spaces across the city where Arts for Vets works are featured. Artworks are frequently listed for sale. For inquiries about purchasing artwork or more information about Arts for Vets, please contact Kimberly Wilson. Open during regular business hours.
A 1936 graduate of the University of North Dakota, Colonel Myers serves as the namesake for this gallery in the Department of Art & Design. Immediately to your right as you enter the Department of Art & Design from the lobby in Hughes Fine Arts Center, you’ll find the Colonel Eugene E. Meyers Art Gallery. This space often serves as the host for BFA and MFA exhibitions, visiting artist shows, and the regional High School Art Show, hosted by the department. Thanks to continued support from the Myers Foundations, this gallery and others exist for learning and enrichment of the student experience at UND. Hours vary, contact the Dept. of Art & Design for hours. 701.777.2257
