Up to 3 credits of CJ 495 and up to 3 credits of CJ 497 can be used to fulfill elective requirements for the major. Additional CJ 495 and CJ 497 credits, up to the total credits listed for each in the catalog, still count as general credits toward graduation.

A concentration in a single supplementary field other than Criminal Justice Studies is also required of all Criminal Justice majors. This concentration may be met in one of two ways:

  1. a language proficiency of level IV in a modern world language; or
  2. 20 credit hours (at least nine of which must be numbered 300 or above) in any single subject matter taught at this University.

For advising and communication from the department, students should declare the Criminal Justice Studies major as early as possible.

General Education Courses

Essential Studies (ES) is UND’s program in general education. Along with your required major courses, it helps form the core of your UND undergraduate education. Your ES courses focus on essential skills employers require including communication, critical thinking and problem solving.
