Earn two degrees in four years and get an extra edge to secure a job after graduation!

  • You'll concentrate on law during your first three semesters. Then, split time between the Criminal Justice Studies program and the School of Law during your last five semesters.
  • You'll earn the Criminal Justice Studies master's portion of your degree online, on-campus or a combination of both. However, the J.D. portion of your degree must be completed in person on UND's campus (online modality is not available) and you will need to apply to the UND School of Law.
  • At North Dakota's only law school, you'll get personalized attention at a nationally-ranked, highly affordable school. You'll have opportunities to interact with practicing attorneys and judges.
  • Coursework for the Criminal Justice Studies master's program will prepare you to have an instrumental role in administering criminal justice and influencing the future of the discipline.

Accredited Program

The School of Law is accredited by the American Bar Association. All UND programs are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

UND's Joint Criminal Justice Studies (M.S./J.D.) Program

  • Double your network when you build connections through the law school and UND's College of Arts & Sciences. In both the legal and criminal justice world, contacts are invaluable.

  • Get valuable on-the-ground expertise through the School of Law's Externship and Field Placement program. This program has placed students in federal courts, non-profit organizations and other offices.

  • Work at an accelerated pace by dual-counting credits. Most students graduate in four years.

  • Receive a high-quality legal and criminal justice education at an affordable price in an intimate environment that values students as people.

  • Take unique electives in rural criminology and tribal justice. Both are understudied aspects of our criminal justice system.

  • Pay less. UND School of Law has the lowest cost of attendance for any ranked law school in the country. We are consistently recognized as a best value law school and rank in the top 10 law schools with the least student debt.
