Review the requirements needed to earn a graduate certificate in Indigenous Digital
Humanities & Cultural Collections Care.
The ability to create and curate digital collections, as well as to help care for material culture items across mediums, in a way that is informed by the study of histories and cultures of Indigenous peoples is highly valued by educational institutions and museums across tribal communities and throughout the US. Courses are designed with these goals for student learning:
- to explore the role of curators in the preservation of cultural lifeways and histories of Indigenous peoples;
- to analyze how curators shape the representation of cultural lifeways and histories of Indigenous peoples;
- to offer hands-on experience in the management of cultural collections in academic and community-based contexts;
- to create opportunities to write grants and policies related to the management of cultural collections;
- to provide hands-on experience in the production of digital collections;
- to promote culturally competent and ethical curation of collections and dissemination of information.
Admission Requirements
- A four-year bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- An overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 or greater for all undergraduate work or of at least 3.0 for the last two years.
- Satisfy the School of Graduate Studies' English Language Proficiency requirements as published in the graduate catalog.
Certificate Requirements
The certificate is comprised of 12 credit hours. English courses taken for the certificate, with the exception of the required ENGL 534, do not count towards the English MA or PhD unless previously approved as part of the candidate's course of study. The following courses are required for the certificate:

In addition to the three required courses above, one of the following two courses is required. If the student does not have a background in Indigenous Studies, ENGL 535 is strongly encouraged.
