Middle Level Education Minor Requirements

Earn a minor in Middle Level Education by meeting these requirements.

The Middle Level minor is open to students majoring in a field which leads to teacher licensure at the elementary or secondary level.

The following Middle Level Education (Grades 5-8) curriculum is required:

Students completing the Middle Level minor with a major in Elementary Education have exceeded the endorsement requirement for a highly qualified teacher (grade 7 or 8). Although, Elementary Education majors with a Middle Level minor will need to complete a major equivalence in a core academic subject. Students are encouraged to meet with the middle school adviser to ensure that the requirements for teaching in the middle school have been met.

Students completing the Middle Level Education minor with a major in a Secondary Education academic area will be considered highly qualified in that core content area.

What is a minor in college?

A minor is like a mini-major. Your major is your primary area of study and a minor allows you to:

  • Pursue another discipline
  • Add training that supports your major
  • Explore personal interests

A minor is noted on your official UND transcript and adds another layer of professional knowledge to your degree.

Your minor must be combined with a major/degree program. Certain majors may require a minor. Minors are declared and have special requirements like mandatory classes.

Consult with your academic advisor if you are interested in adding a minor to your major. They will ensure you can fit a minor into your schedule without interfering with your major requirements.
