Social Science Degree Requirements

Complete these requirements for a bachelor's degree in Social Science.

Required 120 credits (36 of which must be numbered 300 or above, and 30 of which must be from UND) including:

I. Essential Studies Requirements (see University ES listing).

II. At least 36 credits from at least 3 of the following course prefixes: American Indian Studies*, Anthropology, Communication, Criminal Justice, Economics, Geography*, History*, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. At least 9 credits should be taken in each of the 3 areas. At least 18 credits must be upper division.

Students may also choose to complete an optional subplan for directed study around a theme:

Health and Human Services

a. At least 15 credits from Psychology

b. At least 12 credits from Sociology

c. At least 9 credits from Anthropology and/or Communication

Economic and Political Science Studies

a. At least 15 credits from Economics

b. At least 12 credits from Political Science

c. At least 9 credits from Sociology

General Education Courses

Essential Studies (ES) is UND’s program in general education. Along with your required major courses, it helps form the core of your UND undergraduate education. Your ES courses focus on essential skills employers require including communication, critical thinking and problem solving.
