Visual Arts Teacher Licensure
Become an art teacher with a specialized license.
Through a partnership with the College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) and the Department of Teaching & Learning, students may seek secondary licensure
in Art.
Students must meet the requirements for the B.F.A. with major in Visual Arts. Students
also must gain admission to the Secondary Program in CEHD and the following program of study must be completed:
Secondary Education Licensure
Required 125 credits (36 of which must be numbered 300 or above, and 60 which must be from a 4-year institution) including:
I. Essential Studies Graduation Requirements (see University ES listing).
II. EHD General Graduation Requirements (see EHD listing).

Note: The BSED major in Secondary Education requires the completion of an undergraduate major in one of the following content areas: Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, Fisheries & Wildlife Biology, French, Geography, Geology, German, History, Mathematics, Physics or Spanish.

Post-Admission Courses
To be admitted to the Teacher Education Program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 and strength of academic record
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 for communication courses (ENGL 110, ENGL 130, COMM 110)
- Completed 15 credits that apply toward graduation
- Completion of prerequisite courses (including T&L 250 completed or in process)
- Satisfactory dispositions (30 hour field experience) report from T&L 250 course
- Passing scores on PRAXIS Core: Reading (156), Writing (160), Math (150) or passing two tests and not failing the other one by more than 7 and achieving a 466 composite score OR PRAXIS I PPST: Reading (173), Writing (173), Math (172)

IV: Student Teaching and Related Courses:
Prior to being eligible to student teach, students must complete the following prerequisites:
- Minimum cumulative and content major GPA of 2.75
- Grade of C or better and 3.0 GPA in all T&L courses
- Submit full background check
- PRAXIS II completed
- Satisfactory completion of a field experience

For state licensure, students must take the following exams:
- PRAXIS I or Core Academic Skills for Educators (Required for admittance to program)
- PRAXIS II major core area content test
- Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT): Grades 7-12
