Third Party Templates
To encourage brand consistency with UND's website, a set of templates have been created for use by third-party vendors or custom developed systems. These templates cannot be used for public websites as an alternative to the University's content management system (CMS), or for areas not approved to use the CMS.
Release Schedule
New template versions will be released bi-annually, on or around January 1st and July
1st.
When necessary, we may release minor builds and patches between the bi-annual release
dates.
Template Options
There are two types of templates:
- Live Templates - template files that will be updated to the latest template version by UND.
- Static Templates - template files that will be locked to their respective version and will not be
updated in the future. Any changes to third-party templates will be released a separate version
of static templates. Static templates can be used in two ways:
- Hosted - link directly to the files on our server.
- Self-Hosted (preferred) - download template files and resources to be hosted and incorporated on the third-party vendor's server. Please see Implementation Details as there are additional steps to undertake when self-hosting files.
Which Template Type Should I Use?
Live Templates
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Templates are updated for you. | Unable to modify a template if your service requires it, i.e. adding a search box to the header. |
Resources like CSS and JS are updated for you. | Style changes to various elements might conflict with or modify components from your service in an undesirable way. |
Static Templates
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Two ways to use Static templates.
|
Templates are not updated for you. |
Templates are fixed. Whether you're using Hosted templates or Self-Hosted templates, no need to worry about future updates changing the style/layout of your pages. |
Requires periodic updates to incorporate the latest branding.
|
More control over templates. |
Self-Hosted templates can be modified if necessary, i.e. adding a search box to the header. |
Additional steps are required to get components like fonts, form elements, and our SVG sprite to work. See Implementation Details on specifics. |
