Mentors Helping Mentors

Elevate your skills as a mentor and prepare to stand out to future employers.

About the Program

Developed by: Dr. Diane Darland, UND Biology Department and Dr. Anne Kelsch, UND Director of Faculty Development, TTaDA

This series is aimed at building your skills as a mentor, developing effective mentor-mentee communication, and helping you develop your own mentoring philosophy. The research mentoring workshops are designed to engage trainees in collective problem-solving linked to mentoring strategies and to connect graduate students with resources to optimize their mentoring practices.

  • Graduate students must commit to participate in all workshops to receive certification for the series.
  • Space is limited to 32 current UND graduate students who will be accepted in a first-come first-served basis.
Cimer Logo

The concepts and skills developed in these workshops are derived from the CIMER-based Entering Mentoring series, which targets research mentoring and trainees. It was originally developed for mentors across science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) disciplines at different career stages, working with undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty. The workshops are designed to help graduate students in all disciplines develop knowledge and skills for engaging in productive, culturally responsive, research mentoring relationships that optimize the success of both mentors and mentees.

What will YOU get out of participating in the Mentors Helping Mentors Workshop Series this Fall?

Upon completion of the series and associated required activities, you will receive an electronic badge and a certificate that lists the skills you have practiced in the workshops. You will be able to include this information in your Curriculum vitae. You will have created a Mentoring Philosophy Statement to provide to future employers or include in job applications, as appropriate. Most importantly, you will gain increased awareness, knowledge and skills in mentoring that will serve you well as you progress in your professional life.
