Engage, Interact, and Collaborate
View a VoiceThread | Comment on a VoiceThread | Collaborate on a VoiceThread
By its nature, VoiceThread is an engaging and interactive platform. It was built to promote active participation around shared content. Not only can instructors share a wide range of media and content, but students may also engage with content by viewing, commenting on, and adding to VoiceThread slides.
View a VoiceThread
Instructors may require students to view a VoiceThread as an assignment. This option ensures that users have opened and watched all slides prior to submitting their assignment.
For detailed instructions on viewing and navigating a VoiceThread, see the Viewing help articles.
Comment on a VoiceThread
Instructors may require their students to comment on a VoiceThread as part of an assignment. Students may choose to leave comments in audio, video, or text format. Moreover, instructors may foster further engagement by requiring students to reply to one another's comments.
There are three different ways users may respond to comments:
- Direct Reply: a traditional comment. These comments appear in sequence.
- Threaded Reply: a response to an existing comment that creates a conversation thread.
- Private Reply: a reply directed towards an individual; it is only visible to the instructor and the participant.
For more information on commenting in VoiceThread, see the Commenting help articles.
Doodle on a VoiceThread
When recording an audio or video comment, users may doodle directly on a VoiceThread slide. Doodling acts as a visual pointer for a slide, allowing the commenter to highlight or annotate specific information on a slide while they speak. These markings only appear when viewing that comment; they do not alter the actual slide.
For more content on doodling, visit the Doodling help articles.
Collaborate on a VoiceThread
With VoiceThread, instructors can collaborate with students without fear of losing their original content. Users with comment permissions may add slides into an instructor's VoiceThread. They cannot delete, rearrange, or change content on any of the instructor's existing slides. This allows students to contribute content while preserving the instructor’s original structure.
For more information on enabling this feature, visit the Allow Commenters to Add Slides help article.
