Faculty Writing Groups
Each year the Writing Across the Curriculum Program sponsors one or more faculty writing groups. Some groups meet only for one semester, while others choose to be ongoing. In either case, the object is to create a supportive, collegial environment and provide incentives to get the work done!
Currently the WAC program is sponsoring writing groups in two different formats.
"Write Every Week" group
A group of four faculty who meet weekly for 45 minutes to respond to each other's writing. Each week, each group member brings no more than two double-spaced pages to share. Each writer takes five minutes to read his/her piece, and the group spends five minutes responding. Following this format, everyone gets feedback at each and every meeting. Weekly time commitment to the group is 45 minutes, and you will be writing constantly.
"Writer of the Week" group
A group of 6-10 faculty from across the disciplines who meet for an hour once a week to respond to one member's writing. Each week one member distributes a draft and asks for feedback on certain aspects of the work. Group members read the draft before the meeting and come prepared for discussion. With early drafts, the conversation may be about content and organization; with later drafts we may give more attention to style. Weekly time commitment to the group is 2-3 hours, and you will have a single deadline to produce your draft.
