Preparing to be a Graduate Teaching Assistant
(GTA) holds immense significance in the pursuit
of a successful academic career.
As a GTA, one assumes a pivotal role in higher education by working closely with professors and students to foster a productive learning environment.
GTAs are entrusted with guiding and supporting students’ learning journeys, fostering
a commitment
to academic excellence, and developing ethical and inclusive teaching practices.
This preparation not only benefits the GTAs themselves but also contributes to the
overall quality of education by ensuring that students receive the best possible learning
experience. Students who take on the role of a GTA will gain a multitude of benefits
that contribute to their personal and professional growth.
About the Program
Students can expect to delve into a wide range of relevant content that will prepare them for their teaching responsibilities. We will cover strategies to enhance student learning, including methods for engaging and assessing students effectively. Students will also explore topics related to classroom management, such as creating a positive learning environment and handling challenging situations.
Program Objectives
- Recognize the importance of your role as a UND GTA, including responsibilities and expectations.
- Discuss current learning and teaching best practices.
- Learn how to create an inclusive classroom experience.
- Locate resources to assist you in your GTA position at UND.
Registration Information
Registration is required for attendees. GTAs planning to attend must register by 12:00 p.m. CST on Monday, August 10, 2026 to be guaranteed a lunch. The final registration deadline is Friday, August 14, 2026.

Digital Badge
By participating in and completing the Graduate Teaching Assistants’ Best Practices for College Teaching program, students will earn a digital badge recognizing their professional development in college teaching. After completion is verified, the badge will be issued electronically and can be added to a resume, LinkedIn profile, or digital portfolio.
