Doctoral Practicum Program at UCC

Doctoral Practicum Program at UCC

The University Counseling Center (UCC) proudly offers a comprehensive Doctoral Practicum Program designed to provide doctoral practicum students with hands-on experience, skill development, and professional growth in a supportive environment.

Under the guidance of licensed professional counselors and licensed psychologists, doctoral practicum trainees will engage in a variety of clinical activities that enhance their practical knowledge and counseling abilities.

About the Doctoral Practicum Program

  • Orientation & Training: A week-long orientation training precedes the start of each academic semester, ensuring trainees are fully prepared to begin client work.
  • Client Work: Trainees will conduct initial or intake assessments, manage ongoing individual therapy sessions, crisis sessions and participate in outreach presentations.
  • Professional Supervision: Trainees receive regular supervision from experienced professionals, fostering both personal and professional growth.
  • Assessment: Dependent on coursework and competency, trainees may have the opportunity to engage with assessment, testing, interpretation and report writing with supervision.
  • Group Facilitation: Opportunities are available for trainees to co-facilitate therapy groups, enhancing group dynamic management skills.

This program is an exceptional opportunity for doctoral practicum students to refine their counseling skills in a real-world setting, contributing to their readiness for a future in clinical practice.
