Housing Accommodations

In collaboration with UND Housing & Residence Life, Student Disability Resources works with students who may need disability accommodations in their living environment.

Students have the right to apply and seek accommodations at anytime, however, meetings to review requests have specific deadlines, and application submission by the priority deadlines allow time for review and coordination before the semester begins. If approved and space is available, accommodations will be arranged. A UND Housing Application should be submitted through Housing Self Service regardless of disability accommodation status.

New Fall 2026 Students

Students may submit requests for housing accommodations at any time. Meetings to review requests will begin after January 1, 2026.

  • Priority Deadline: May 1, 2026
  • Requests supported by this date will receive priority consideration.
  • Approved accommodations are provided based on disability-related need and pending space availability.

We encourage you to submit your request as early as possible to allow adequate time for review and planning.

Requesting Housing Accommodations

To request housing accommodations, students should follow the process outlined under 'Requesting Accommodations for the First Time at UND'.

Determinations are made on a case-by-case basis through an interactive process with the student, including discussion and review of documentation. There must be a logical connection between the functional limitations of the disability and the requested accommodations.

Disability accommodations are necessary to provide access to the living environment. Students who have been approved for housing accommodation(s) will receive a Notification of Disability Accommodations email, following the meeting with their Access Coordinator. The Housing Office will also receive a copy of this email. Housing accommodations are approved for one academic year. Determination of housing accommodations are subject to availability.

Student Disability Resources, UND Housing, and the student work collaboratively to arrange accommodations that meet the individual needs of the student.

The student should contact Student Disability Resources with any questions or concerns regarding the accommodation(s), implementation or reasonableness.

No. Student Disability Resources does not share with roommates disability accommodations. Students are strongly encouraged to discuss their ESA with their roommates. ESA owners are responsible for maintaining proper care and control of the animal; must properly dispose of the animal’s waste; and are responsible for any damage or injury caused by the animal.

The determination process is done on a case-by-case basis and is accomplished through an interactive process with the student through discussion(s) and review of the disability documentation.

We provide reasonable accommodations tailored to each individual’s needs and based on their specific situation. Student Disability Resources works in collaboration with Housing & Residence Life to determine accommodation options for students with disabilities.
