About the Fundamentals of Computer Information Systems Online Course
This course exposes students to the role information systems play in the business world with an introduction to information technology topics and data analytics. This experiential and application-oriented course develops spreadsheet, visualization, and database competencies relevant to business professionals.
Students have 3 to 9 months to complete this course from the time of enrollment. You may work at your own pace and complete lessons on your own schedule, submitting up to three items per week for grading. This course contains 25 lessons designed to focus your study of management information systems and to assist you in achieving the course learning objectives/outcomes. You will work through a combination of required readings, view captioned videos, exercises, short project assignments, exams, and an oral presentation.

Required Course Materials
The course will use two online learning resources from McGraw Hill Education: Connect and SIMnet.
- In McGraw-Hill Connect we will use: Business Driven Information Systems, 7th edition, Baltzan
- In McGraw-Hill SIMnet we will use: Microsoft Office 2016 Access Complete by Nordell, and Microsoft Office 2016 Excel Complete by Nordell.
Please refer to the Blackboard course site once enrolled for information on how to purchase access to Connect and SIMnet. You will need to use specific websites and to follow instructions found in Blackboard to access discounted prices for UND students. You do not need to purchase a physical textbook for this course.
How will the course appear on my transcript?
You may enroll at any time and have up to 9 months to complete this online course. The credits earned will be recorded on your UND transcript based on the date you registered for the course. It will appear on your transcript in the same way as a course taken during a regular semester. There is no indication that the course was taken online or that you completed it at your own pace.
