Test Computer Audio and Video
Prior to joining or hosting a Class for Web session, you will need to give your browser permission to access your microphone and camera. During this process, you will be prompted to test your audio and video to confirm that your devices are working as expected. Testing your setup in advance helps prevent common issues such as muted microphones, incorrect input devices, or camera errors when your session begins.
Turn On and Off Audio and Video
Once permission has been given, you can choose to turn your microphone and camera on or off at any time. When you turn on your microphone, it becomes active immediately. When you turn on your camera, you will see a video preview and be asked to confirm before sharing your video with participants.
Audio and video controls can be found in the Content Presentation Area at the bottom of your session window.

Video Layouts
Class for Web offers several video layout options that automatically adjust based on whether content is being shared.
- Speaker View: Highlights the active speaker in a larger video window, with other participant videos displayed in a row at the bottom of the screen.
- Tiled View: Emphasizes the active speaker while displaying other participants in a grid to the right of the main video.
- Gallery View: Displays up to 25 participants per screen in a grid. No active speaker is highlighted. If Gallery View requires more bandwidth than your network can support, it will automatically turn off.
For additional details on video layouts and view settings, see the Moderate Sessions Video help article.
Audio and Video Best Practices
Use these best practices to improve audio and video during live sessions.
Use a high-quality microphone to ensure clear audio for all participants. This is crucial for individuals with hearing impairments and those working in noisy environments.
To reduce background noise, you may choose to mute attendee's microphones. Moderators can choose to mute either individual attendees or all attendees in a session.
Note: Attendees may turn their microphone back on after being muted. There is no disable function in Class for Web.
Presenting with your camera on helps establish instructor presence and encourages student engagement. Video allows students to pick up on nonverbal cues and better connect with your tone and enthusiasm for the session content.
