Navigate Class for Web  |  Review Course Roles

Navigate Class for Web

Understanding how Class for Web is organized can help you move confidently through live sessions! It is organized into four convenient areas: a content presentation area, the Session menu, a Collaborate panel, and the Session Scheduler.

  1. Content Presentation Area:  the primary space where session content appears, including shared screens, presentations, videos, and participant videos. The area automatically adjusts to maximize screen space and provide a clear viewing experience.

  2. Session Menu: contains session-level information and controls. Instructors can access session details, settings, and other high-level options by selecting the Session menu icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.

  3. Collaborate Panel: provides access to interaction and engagement tools during a session. From this panel, instructors can manage participants, monitor chat activity, share files, and use additional Class for Web features.

  4. Scheduler: allows instructors to create, edit, and manage live sessions within Blackboard Ultra. It is also where session recordings are accessed.

Review Course Roles

Class for Web session roles define how attendees interact during a session.

Moderator

Has full control of the session, including content sharing, permissions, and role management. Moderators can respond to raised hands, remove participants, adjust session settings, and receive email links to session recordings. A Moderator label appears in video and chat.

Presenter

Can share and manage content during a session without full moderator access. Presenters can upload, edit, and stop shared content and respond to raised hands. Labeled as Presenter in video.

Participant

Joins sessions with interaction options determined by the moderator. They may use audio, video, chat, or shared tools depending on session settings. Notification preferences can be adjusted individually.

Captioner

Provides real-time captions during a session to support accessibility. They are assigned by a moderator. They are identified with a CC label in the attendee list.

Locate Attendees

Open the Attendees list to view all attendees and their designated roles. The Attendees list is located in the Collaborate panel of a session. From the Attendees list, you can quickly see:

  • The role of each attendee.
  • Attendees with their hand raised (those with their hand raised appear at the top of their role list).
  • Attendee status or feedback.
  • Attendees with their microphone turned on.

Note: We recommend that you leave the Attendees list open at all times. Keeping the Attendees list open during a session helps you stay aware of participation, speaking activity, and potential connection issues—while continuing to teach and interact through chat and other session tools.
