Caregiver & Parent Stress & Wellness:Self-Report and Physiological Stress Measures for Caregivers of Children to Identify Those At Risk for Caregiver Fatigue or Burnout

My name is Chassidy Rae Strege, and I am a Doctoral Student in the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of North Dakota. I have lived in Grand Forks for 20 years, and I am passionate about supporting people in our community.

A few years ago, I learned of a need in the community: local resources in managing and recovering from stress to build resiliency for parents and caregivers of children. In response, I have begun the process of developing local stress-recovery programming to support parents and caregivers.  In August 2025, this work took on greater significance when the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory highlighting the current and growing crisis around parental well-being and stress.

Volunteers

A critical first step in building effective local stress-recovery resources is assessing both the sources of support individuals rely on and the unmet needs they continue to face.

  • I am seeking volunteers to share their experiences. Eligible participants must have at least one child of elementary school age.
  • Volunteers will complete a 15-20 minute survey which can be completed at their convenience via phone or computer.
  • Participants who are interested in further involvement may choose to complete an additional optional assessment measuring heart rate variability and skin conductance.
  • This session takes approximately 40–60 minutes and will be scheduled at a time that is convenient for them.
  • The project is taking place in partnership with Suedel Therapeutics and Wellness under the supervision of Dr. Dmitri Poltavski, a professor of Psychology at the University of North Dakota. At this time there is no compensation for participation.

PARTICIPATE IN SURVEY.
