UND Care Team

The Care Team is available to assist with incidents involving UND students 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Examples of such incidents include, major accidents, missing students, death, suicidal ideations, situations involving self-harm, psychological trauma and sexual violence.

The purpose of the Care Team is to facilitate communication between the students, families and the university.

What to Expect From the Care Team

  • Typically, if University Police is involved in a transport to Altru, officers will contact a Care Team member.
  • When UND staff have information about a student having a medical emergency, including an overdose of alcohol or other drugs, the parent(s) will be called if possible.
  • Care Team members do not respond on site.
  • After an incident, usually the next business day, a member of the Care Network will be in contact with the student regarding any follow up. Altru Hospital typically contacts a Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) volunteer when the emergency room staff suspect violence, including sexual violence.

Response Model

  1. INTERVENTION, usually a physical presence designed to prevent an action or to maintain or alter a condition.
  2. Physical or emotional SUPPORT of a person in distress.
  3. ASSESSMENT of a situation or employing the use of colleagues and providers able to render an assessment of the situation.
  4. Developing a plan of ACTION or follow-up.

Medical Amnesty Act and Overdose Prevention and Immunity

The safety of health of students is a primary concern at the University of North Dakota. As such, any student can seek assistance from the University Police for themselves or others who are intoxicated or drug-impaired.
