Breadth of Knowledge Classes 2019-20
To use a course to meet your Essential Studies (ES) requirements, it must be on the approved list in the semester you take it. This is important because the curriculum may change. A course that was on the approved list in the past may have been modified to meet a different ES requirement or it could have been dropped.
You must complete at least 9 credit hours in each of the four Breadth of Knowledge areas:

Communication

Students must take ENGL 110 and ENGL 130; and 3 credits of oral communication.

Social Sciences

Must be taken in a minimum of 2 departments. Some of these courses are also approved to meet one of the Special Emphasis requirements.
Fine Arts
9 semester credits minimum in Fine Arts and Humanities combined.
Must be taken in a minimum of 2 departments and also must include 3 credits designated as Fine Arts and 3 credits designated as Humanities. Some of these courses are also approved to meet one of the Special Emphasis requirements.
Humanities
9 semester credits minimum in Fine Arts and Humanities combined.
Must be taken in a minimum of 2 departments and also must include 3 credits designated as Fine Arts and 3 credits designated as Humanities. Some of these courses are also approved to meet one of the Special Emphasis requirements.
Math/Sci/Tech
9 semester credits minimum.
Must be taken in a minimum of 2 departments and must include a 4-hour science course with a lab. Lab courses are designated with an L. Some of these courses are also approved to meet one of the Special Emphasis requirements.
