Why Take UND's Calculus II Online Course?

MATH 166: Calculus II continues the study of calculus with a focus on advanced functions, integration techniques, infinite series, and alternative coordinate systems. Designed for students pursuing mathematics, engineering, physical sciences, computer science, economics, and other quantitative fields, this course strengthens the analytical and problem-solving skills needed for advanced coursework.

UND Enroll Anytime offers two sections with different learning pathways. Choose the online format that best fits how you learn.

Both sections satisfy the same university course requirement, carry the same credit, and assess the same course outcomes. The sections differ in instruction, structure, practice tools, assessment and feedback modalities, and course materials.

Based on instructor capacity, there may be periods when one section of the course is closed to new registrations. During those periods, the other section will be the only available option. Section availability will be noted below. Click the "Register Now" button to begin the registration process.

Learning Format

Students work through lessons made up of instructor lecture materials, adaptive homework through Knewton Alta, and proctored exams. Adaptive homework gives more frequent practice and feedback, with questions that respond to student performance.

Course Materials

Both sections of Math 166 use a free Calculus textbook provided through the UND Math Department.

This section requires students to purchase access to Knewton Alta. Options include monthly subscription, single term access, or Alta pass, which is a 2-year subscription that can be used for multiple courses, such as Math 166: Calclulus II and Math 265: Calculus III.

This section is a traditional online course that is a good fit for students who prefer a self-directed pathway through the course material and who are comfortable learning from textbook readings, concise instructional videos, textbook-based practice problems, and traditional assignments. It was developed and is taught by Alexandar Sidles.

Math 166: Calculus II (Sidles) Syllabus

The course syllabus provides the course description and objectives, lesson topics, assignment information, grading criteria, and more.

Learning Format

Students work through assigned textbook chapters and lesson notes, watch short instructional videos, submit assigned homework problems, and prepare for exams with a high degree of independence. This format requires strong self-discipline, careful exam preparation, and confidence in prerequisite skills.

Course Materials

This section of Math 165 uses a free Calculus textbook provided through the UND Math Department.

Delivered in a flexible online format, MATH 166: Calculus II helps students deepen their understanding of calculus while preparing for further study in multivariable calculus, differential equations, physics, engineering, data science, and other fields that rely on advanced mathematical reasoning. You'll learn:

  • Exponential and logarithm functions
  • l’Hôpital’s Rule
  • Integration by parts
  • Trigonometric integrals
  • Partial fractions integration
  • Arc length and surface area via integration
  • Taylor polynomials
  • Infinite series and convergence tests
  • Parametric equations
  • Polar coordinates

Enroll Anytime Math exams are proctored by Honorlock. You can submit up to 3 items for grading per week, taking a maximum of 9 months to complete the course. Allow an additional 5-7 business days to process registration, and 3-5 days for the final grade to appear on your transcript.
