The Clothing Closet
The Clothing Closet provides access to gender-affirming clothing and accessories for students.
Purpose
The Clothing Closet was created to provide access to free identify affirming clothing for UND students, faculty, and staff. The closet helps support trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse students feel comfortable and validated so they can be their authentic selves while pushing forward in their education.
How the Closet Works
The Closet is made possible by donated items. Students can access the Closet at anytime during open hours of the Memorial Union, it is located in the Pride Center (Memorial Union 204). Stop by the Pride Center and browse through the collection and take what feels affirming to you. There are single-user gender inclusive restrooms located next to the Pride Center to try items on. We ask that you put items back neatly with organization and care if you are not taking them with you. While this resource centers on trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people, it can be used by anyone in need.
Binders are a form of gender affirming care and we try to keep a stock available to students. Points of Pride is an online resource that also provides free chest binders.
The Pride Center also keeps a stock of menstrual products, condoms, satin dams, lubricants, and safe sex kits.
How many items can I take?
Our intention is that students come in and take the items they need the most, this looks different for every student. We ask that people refrain from taking items for hobbies such as drag or cosplay.
How many times can I visit the Closet during the semester?
There is no limit to the number of times a student can visit the Closet. The inventory is constantly changing, there may be items available that were not previously there that can meet student needs.
Binders
Binders are a form of gender affirming care. The Pride Center has partnered with gc2b to offer free access to binders for UND students, faculty, and staff. Email UND.pridecenter@UND.edu or visit with staff at the Pride Center to request a binder. Requests can be made no more than two times per academic year.
How do I know my size for a binder?
gc2b offers a sizing guide for binders. You can read through their sizing guide or watch their online video. We recommend trying on a binder at the Pride Center to determine your size; single-user, gender inclusive restrooms are located next to the Pride Center for trying on.
Donation Guidelines
Items can donated to the Gender Expression Closet. All donated items must be machine washed and in good condition; there should be no stains or holes. Items will be reviewed before accepted. Items can be dropped off at the Pride Center during regular business hours.
