Lift Standards

  • Either an Eleiko Bar or Texas Power Bar may be used and may be in either a high bar or low bar position across the upper back. Safety collars must be used.
  • Must be in a power rack, may face either to or away from the mirror.
  • The lifter must reach a depth where the top surface of the leg at the hip joint is at least parallel to the top surface of the knee joint for an acceptable attempt. No pause at the bottom is required.

  • Either an Eleiko Bar or Texas Power Bar may be used. Safety collars must be used.
  • Can be performed either on the Precor Bench or in a power rack utilizing the designated fitted bench.
  • A lift-off is acceptable to un-rack the bar.
  • The bar must descend and make contact with the lifter’s chest/torso before it ascends for an acceptable attempt. No pause at the bottom is required.

  • Either an Eleiko Bar or Texas Power Bar may be used. Safety collars must be used.
  • Must be performed on the platform, may face either to or away from the mirror.
  • Only a conventional stance may be used. The lifter’s feet should be in line with their hips and inside the widest part of their shoulders. A sumo stance is not permitted.
  • The bar must continually ascend until the lifter achieves a tall posture with their hips locked out for an acceptable attempt. Hitching the bar up the thighs is not permitted.
  • If a lifter is using weight plates less than 45lbs for their attempt, they may place the bar with lighter plates on top of 1-2 weight plates on each end of the platform to help achieve a desirable starting height.

Rules

  • Members may sign up for only 1 club category (250lbs, 500lbs, 750lbs, or 1000lbs).
  • The challenge is completed if a participant matches or exceeds the club category total from the three lifts.
  • If a participant signs up for one club category (500lbs) but reaches a higher club category (750lbs), their challenge will be complete only for the club that was originally joined and will receive a T-shirt for that club.
  • A participant may elect to waive their attempts at one or two of the lifts.
  • If a participant wishes to use all three lifts, they must do so within one continuous session. For example, a participant cannot test their back squat in the morning, then return in the evening for bench press and deadlift. Only one session per day.
  • The Fitness Desk staff will track when a participant declares they are there for the club challenge. Name, date, and time will be recorded.
  • The combined total from one continuous session will be used to determine completion of the challenge, not the highest obtained number from each lift from separate sessions.
  • A lifter has 3 attempts per lift during one session.
  • Warm-up sets are highly encouraged and will not be limited.
  • Once the lifter is ready to test, they should notify the fitness staff so the lift can be judged. The fitness staff member has final say on whether an attempt was successful or unsuccessful.
  • No commands will be given from the fitness desk staff when judging an attempt. The lifter will initiate the movement on their own.
  • For the Bench Press, at least one spotter is needed. The fitness staff member can spot if they are comfortable doing so. If the fitness staff member is uncomfortable spotting solo, the lifter will need to find another member that is willing to assist.
  • Back Squat does not need a spotter, but the lifter is encouraged to have one. A failed attempt can be safely performed by dumping the barbell onto the rack crash bars.
