MGMT 309 introduces quantitative methods that support managerial decision-making across a wide range of business environments. Rather than focusing only on mathematical theory, the course emphasizes how analytical models can be selected, built, interpreted, and applied to practical business problems.
You’ll begin with linear programming and explore how organizations can use optimization models to allocate resources and improve performance. From there, you’ll study applications involving distribution and networks, integer programming, nonlinear optimization, waiting lines, simulation, decision analysis, and forecasting.
Microsoft Excel is used extensively throughout the course to build and analyze decision models. Previous Excel experience can be helpful, but it is not required.
By the end of the course, you’ll be better prepared to identify business problems, select appropriate quantitative techniques, compare possible solutions, and use analytical evidence to support decisions while accounting for uncertainty and risk.
This course contains 14 lessons including four exams proctored by Honorlock. Each lesson contains lesson objectives and a to-do list, required reading, videos and other supporting material, and at least one assessment. You may work at your own pace and complete lessons on your own schedule, and can complete the course in as little as 6 weeks or take up to 9 months to work through the course.
