North Dakota Medical Professional Training
Identification, Reporting, and Evaluation of Suspected Victims of Child Physical Abuse and Sexual Abuse
Training was provided by the Children and Family Services Training Center (CFSTC) in collaboration with the North Dakota Children and Family Services Section of the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services. Funding for the training conducted on December 1, 2025, was provided through a grant awarded to the State of North Dakota under the Children’s Justice Act.
Learning objectives to be covered in training Alicia R Pekarsky, MD, FAAP, Board Certified Child Abuse Pediatrician & General Pediatrician:
- List the reasons suspected victims of child abuse need specialized medical attention.
- Recognize the historical, clinical and radiological findings associated with inflicted injuries and differentiate them from those findings caused by accidental trauma and medical mimics.
- Plan the appropriate medical evaluation and management of suspected child physical abuse.
- Recognize the historical, clinical, and laboratory findings associated with child sexual abuse.
- Plan the appropriate medical evaluation and management of suspected child sexual abuse.
- Explain how to report all reasonable concerns of child maltreatment to the North Dakota Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Line.
