Animals
Circle of Friends is an animal shelter whose mission is to “enrich the lives of pets through healing, education, and connecting companions”. This animal shelter rescues mainly cats and dogs and takes care of them while they are waiting for their forever home.

BIO Girls is a 12-session program designed to help young women gain confidence in themselves through helping others and learning empowerment skills.

Safe Kids Grand Forks is a coalition who works to prevent injuries and death of children 19 years old and younger. They receive donations to help provide safety items such as a car seat or a helmet to children in need. They also put on several safety meetings and events to help gain awareness.

Basic Needs

Edgewood provides a small community for residents looking for premium one-on-one care. They are located all throughout the Midwest and provide several services to residents.

The Grand Forks Senior Center is dedicated to helping older adults live to their full potential. They do this by introducing people to each other to make friends, go places outside the center and provide opportunities to try new things. They also have a meals on wheel program to provide warm meals to those who have difficulty leaving their home to grocery shop.

Music and Theater

UND has two community gardens on campus, each managed by different groups. One is managed by the Department of Education and the other is run by the UND department of earth system science and policy (ESSP). During the gardening months these groups actively look for volunteers to help with the upkeep of these gardens.

This indoor arena and convention center is known to hold lots of memories. The Alerus center holds most big concerts that come to Grand Forks as well as all of UND’s home football games.

The Ralph Engelstad Arena (REA) is home to UND hockey games during their season. This arena also holds a variety of other events such as the circus that comes to town every spring. Non-profit organizations are able to help the REA with concessions and cleaning to raise funds for their group.

CVIC is an organization determined to end domestic and sexual violence. They provide education, healing and safety to those found in these difficult situations.

Global Friends Coalition helps with the integration process of refugees coming into America. They welcome refugees into the Grand Forks area while assisting in learning English as well. They have three volunteer programs to help the integration process flow more smoothly. Volunteers can decide which program they would like to help with but the Global Friends Coalition asks that volunteers dedicate one hour a week for six months to help create a friendship, perhaps, with the New Americans.
