Integrated Apps

Blackboard Ultra supports a wide range of integrated apps to support teaching and learning.

Apps can appear in various places—such as the Books and Tools menu, the Add New menu (+), and the Add Content menu (in a document) —depending on their function.

Simple Syllabus is an intuitive, web-based platform that integrates with Blackboard to streamline syllabus creation and management for instructors. By offering customizable, department-specific templates, instructors can quickly create and edit syllabi for each course while ensuring institutional policies are consistent and accurate.

For more information on accessing Simple Syllabus, visit the Simple Syllabus Software page.

Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing and collaboration platform that supports virtual learning and communication. With Zoom, faculty can create interactive online classrooms where students can join from any device—desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Students can share content such as PowerPoint presentations, documents, and videos directly from their devices, making Zoom an ideal tool for academic engagement.

Instructors can streamline student access by adding a Zoom meeting link directly to their Blackboard course. This allows students to join class sessions with a single click—no searching through emails required.

There are two setup options:

  • Create a new Zoom meeting and link it directly to your Blackboard course.
  • Link an existing Zoom meeting that you've already scheduled.

For more information on setting up Zoom in Blackboard Ultra, visit the Getting Started with Zoom page.

All students, faculty, and staff have access to a personal YuJa account, allowing them to host video content and record video lectures for curriculum use.

YuJa can easily be accessed through any Blackboard Ultra course, creating a streamlined user experience for both faculty and students. Users can access YuJa in Blackboard from the Books and Tools menu, the Add New menu (+), and the Add Content menu (in a document).

For more information on the Blackboard-YuJa integration, visit the Getting Started with YuJa page.

VoiceThread is an interactive platform that allows students and faculty to share and discuss media (e.g. images, videos, PDFs, and more) using text, audio, and video comments.

VoiceThread is a cloud application, so there is no software to install. The only system requirement is an up-to-date version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. VoiceThread can be accessed from both inside and outside of Blackboard.

For more information on accessing VoiceThread, visit the Getting Started with VoiceThread page.

Honorlock is a proctoring tool that supports academic integrity in online exams. Honorlock uses a hybrid proctoring model, which allows students to start a proctored test at any time (without scheduling). During an exam, Honorlock uses AI to flag potential violations. Live proctors review flagged activity and determine whether intervention is necessary. If necessary, proctors may interrupt a student to stop certain behaviors before continuing with the exam. The full exam session is also recorded and available for the instructor to view at a later time.

For more information, see the Creating, Securing, and Proctoring Blackboard Exams page.
