All dates are subject to change. Updated: 10/05/25
Housing Application: Opens Monday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. CST
Submit your housing application through Housing Self Service.
- Be ready to indicate your residence hall choices on your application.
- Your priority for residence hall room assignments is based on the date you submit your housing application. The earlier you apply, the better.
- Once your housing application is completed, you will be prompted to start the roommate matching process.
Note: You must be admitted to UND for fall 2026 to apply for housing. You do not need to pay your $200 Admissions enrollment confirmation deposit in order to submit your housing application. You will need to pay the enrollment confirmation deposit to receive a residence hall room assignment.
In preparation, you can return to your Housing Self Service portal and update your Personal Information found under the menu options.
Update Your Roommate Profile
- Select Personal Information from the menu and then select Roommate Profile.
- You can choose whether you want your profile to be public or private.
- Please provide a personal introduction and contact information to assist in the roommate matching process. This is what other students will see when searching for roommates.
Update Your My Info
- Answer as many of the questions you would like.
- Your answers to these questions will help you search for students who have also answered these questions during the roommate selection process.
- These questions will also be used during the assignment process to match students who have not selected roommates.
Roommate Selection
- Complete roommate selection/matching process and ensure that you and your roommate are fully matched.
- Roommates will be assigned automatically if you do not wish to select your own.
Students wanting to be included in the LLC Room Assignment Process must have indicated their preference on their housing application prior to the priority deadline.Students who are eligible and have been pre-selected to live in an LLC will be assigned to a room.
- Assignments for each LLC will be made according to the date the housing application was received.
- Students may only be assigned to an LLC if they meet the eligibility for the LLC and have indicated interest in living in the LLC.
- Matched roommates will be assigned together only if both roommates meet the criteria for the LLC. If both roommates do not meet the LLC criteria, they will not be assigned as part of the LLC Room Assignment process.
-
Not all students that request an LLC assignment will receive an assignment in an LLC as demand in some communities is greater than the capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions
As a newly admitted student, you do not need to pay the $200 Admissions enrollment confirmation deposit in order to submit your housing application. The date you submit your housing application is used to determine your priority for residence hall room assignments.
However, you must pay the Admissions enrollment confirmation deposit in order to receive a residence hall room assignment. UND will not assign residence hall rooms to students who have not confirmed their enrollment.
To be included in the first round of room assignments, you must pay your enrollment confirmation deposit by May 1.
If you did not meet the requirements for housing, this is why you did not receive an assignment at this time. If you believe that you did meet the requirements and did not receive an assignment, please email housing@UND.edu and we will look into why you did not receive any communication on your assignment.
As we continue to process room assignments, you may receive notification of a roommate. You may still match with a roommate on your self-service portal until the deadline, but we cannot guarantee you will be placed with that individual.
If incoming students do not get a placement after all room assignments have been completed, a waitlist will be created and use the student’s original application timestamp.
In previous years, we received over 2,600 housing applications, with more than 25% submitted within the first 24 hours. To give some perspective: if each of those early applicants matched with just one roommate, we would have completely filled West, McVey, and Brannon Halls on day one.
In most cases, this happened because your preferred roommate did not meet the criteria for room placement. Please email housing@UND.edu.
Individuals can email housing@UND.edu and request to be moved out of a single room.
Transferring/Returning students have the option of Swanson Hall for residence halls or one of our apartments.
If you have decided not to attend, please contact Admissions and the registrar’s office and inform them that you will not be attending UND.
Meal plan selection will start mid-May, so please keep an eye on your email for more information. If you do not self-select a meal plan by June 30, the Anytime Access Silver Plan will be assigned to you. If students need to change their meal plan after June 30, please contact the Dining Services Office at dining@UND.edu.
After June 30, contact Dining Services (dining@UND.edu).
Make sure your roommate has completed their housing application. Only students who have applied can be found in roommate matching.
Due to high application volume, we only allow one-to-one roommate matches. This prevents
issues when larger groups lose a member and helps keep assignments stable and fair.
We are expecting an exceptionally high volume of housing applications which makes
it difficult to match exact suite placements for larger groups. In past years, when a group of four applied together and one person later canceled,
it created difficult situations for the remaining three. They would either need to find a fourth person at the last
minute or be matched with a random student, which often caused frustration and imbalance. By focusing only on one-to-one roommate matches, we can
reduce these issues and provide more stable assignments for everyone.
Certain programs admission decisions aren’t released until January due to the limited number of seats and the review process. Please know that UND is dedicated to providing safe and comfortable housing for all first-year students, including those admitted in January and later months. Housing staff work closely with Admissions to ensure students are accommodated and spaces are managed with that in mind. Once students are admitted, they will be able to apply for housing. For better understanding of this decision, we encourage you to talk with our Admissions team.
After completing the housing application, you can go back into your housing portal and select Room and Roommate Selection and click on Waiting Lists.
