
Returning Students Room Sign Up
From January 12 - March 31 students who currently live in on-campus housing and want to return to live on campus next year have the first opportunity to select rooms.
You have many living options as a returning, transfer, or graduate student. If you're looking to return to live on campus in the Residence Halls or if you'd like the opportunity to live in the Apartment Style Housing, follow the process and steps listed below. If you'd like to live in the On-Campus Apartments, you can submit an application at any time.

Returning To Live On Campus Process
If you are a returning student who would like to live in the Residence Halls or Apartment-Style Housing, follow the process and timelines of the process listed below.
Step 1
Submit a Returning Student Room Sign Up Agreement in Housing Self Service beginning January 12 at 10 a.m. For more information about how to submit an agreement, see Application How-To.
Step 2
Do Not Want a Roommate
- If you do not want to select a roommate, you can skip this step and go to step 3.
- If you are planning on signing up for your current room during Same Room Selection, do not join a roommate group.
Want a Roommate
If you would like a roommate, be sure to review the information below and select a roommate, or roommate group.
- Roommate groups can only be used in All Room Selection.
- If you are planning on signing up for your current room during Same Room Selection, do not join a roommate group.
- If you want the same room AND a new roommate, you will need to decide which is more important, the room or the new roommate.
- If the same room is a priority, select the room during the same room and do not match as a roommate group.
- If a new roommate is most important, you should match with a roommate group and select a room during All Room Selection.
Step 3
Select your room during one of the room selection processes listed below.
New Room
Want to live in a different room on campus? Apply ASAP! The sooner you apply, the better room selection time you'll be assigned.
Same Room
Want to continue living in the same room that you live in right now?
- Returning students have the first chance to return to their same room. In some instances, students will not be able to return to the same room. These students will be notified by Housing Staff via email.
- Same Room Selection is guaranteed only if you select it before the priority deadline.
- If you do not select the same room during this time, there is no guarantee that you will be able to select it during All Room Selection.
- Once you have selected the same room, you will be unable to participate in other room selection processes.
Currently living in a single room?
- If you currently live in a double as a single room, you won't be able to keep it as a single.
- If you live in a designed single room, University Place, Swanson Hall, or 560 Carleton Court you will be able to keep your room as a single.

Double Room as a Single in Residence Halls
Returning Students* who complete the Residence Hall Room Sign Up Agreement have the option for a private bedroom at the double-as-a-single room rate in all halls excluding Swanson.
Save One Months Rent in Apartment-Style
Returning Students* who complete the 12-month Apartment-Style Room Sign Up Agreement will save the equivalent cost of one month of rent.****
Exclusive Buildings for Returning/Transfer/Graduate Students
Swanson Hall, University Place, 560 Carleton Court, and all on-campus apartments are reserved for returning, transfer, and graduate students.
More Meal Plan Options
Choose from a larger variety of Non-Residence Hall Meal Plans or choose not to have one when you live in Swanson Hall, University Place, 560 Carleton Court, and all on-campus apartments.
*Returning students are defined as students who lived on campus during the 2021-2022 Academic Year.
**Students must live in Swanson Hall for the 2022-2023 Academic Year. Parking Pass is non-transferable, and not redeemable for a cash value or other offers.
***Students must Live in Swanson Hall for the 2023-2023 Academic Year and purchase a dining meal plan to be eligible for the $50 Dining Dollars. Dining Dollars will expire at the end of the 2022-2023 Academic Year.
**** Apartment-style housing is billed by the semester and the savings will not be directly reflected as a credit in the semester charges. Savings can be seen by taking the total cost of the 9-month rate divided by 9 and the total cost of the 12-month rate divided by 12.

If you would like to be one of the to first pick a room for next year, apply by this date to participate in the First Round Room Selection.
Room Selection Times Sent to Students
Thursday, January 27
If you completed your Returning Student Room Sign Up Agreement by January 25, you will be sent a room selection time via email.
First Round Open Room Selection
Apartment-Style Housing
Tuesday, February 1 - Friday, February 4
To live in apartment-style housing, participate during this time.
Residence Halls
Monday, February 7 - Thursday, February 10
To live in the residence halls, participate during this time.
All Room Selection Details
Students who would like a new or different room for the next academic year will participate in All Room Selection.
- This process uses a system where students are given a priority number based on the date the Room Sign Up Agreement was submitted.
- Students with higher priority can select a room earlier, meaning they will have more rooms to choose from.
- You will receive a start date and time based on the priority number.
- Each student will be given 4 minutes to select from all available rooms before the next student can select a room. Once a student’s start time has passed, the student may select a room at any time before the end of All Room Selection.
- Students can only select one room assignment during All Room Selection. Room Change Processes will be held at specified times to change your room selection.
- All Room Selection start times will be emailed to the student's UND email and will also be available in Housing Self Service.
- Please visit Housing Self Service well in advance of your start time so you may troubleshoot any access problems.
Room Selection Reopens
Friday, February 11 - Tuesday, February 15
Room Selection for Returning Students reopens for individuals who completed the Returning Student Room Sign Up Agreement after January 25.
Last Chance to Select A Room
Tuesday, February 15
Students who apply after February 15 will be assigned a room beginning March 15, 2022.
Room Change Process - First Round
Thursday, February 24 - Friday, March 11
Students who previously selected a room will have the opportunity to select a different room than they originally selected.
Remaining Room Assignments
Tuesday, March 15 - Thursday, March 31
Room assignments will be given to students who did not self-select a room. The last chance to cancel an agreement without financial obligation is Monday, March 14.
Last Day to Participate in Room Sign Up
Wednesday, March 31
Last day to complete Returning Room Sign Up Agreement without incurring $60 Application Fee
Room Change Process - Final Round, Space Permitting
Friday, April 1 - Monday, April 4
Students who previously selected a room will have one last opportunity to select a different room than they originally selected.

Returning students who wish to live on campus after March 31 may still sign up to live on campus and will follow the New Student Room Selection process to live on campus.

Anytime Access Silver Meal Plan added for any student that did not self-select.
Special Circumstances
Rooming information for those regarding special circumstances below.
Students participating in the RA recruitment process who plan on living in the residence halls next year, regardless of receiving an RA position or not, are encouraged to participate in the Room Sign Up Process.
Students who are not selected as an RA and participated in the Room Sign Up process are subject to the terms associated with release as outlined in the Room and Meal Plan Agreement for the corresponding year.

Some residents are currently living in a room that will be unavailable for the assignment next year. Students who will not be allowed to return to their same room include:
- Students currently living in an ADA designated room but did not request it for a disability-related accommodation.
- Students in a limited number of double rooms.
If you are in a room that you cannot return to, you will receive email communication from the Housing Office.
Students who are asked to move for Room Selection will be notified via email about their new room selection time.
- Students will be able to select a room at any time during this period
Aviation
- This is a first-year community only.
- Current students are not able to select their room during Same Room Selection.
Engineering
- Engineering students currently living on these floors can select a room during Same Room Selection.
- Students selecting a room on these floors during All Room Selection must be in an engineering major or majoring in one of the STEM fields.
Honors
- Students currently in this community can return as long as they continue to meet eligibility requirements.
Wellness - Changing Halls
- Students currently in this community can return as long as they continue to meet eligibility requirements.
Emerging Leaders
- Students currently in this community can return as long as they continue to meet eligibility requirements.
Business
- Students majoring in business can choose to live on this floor.
Atmospheric Sciences
- Students majoring in atmospheric sciences can choose to live on this floor.
Education
- Students majoring in education can choose to live on this floor.
Nursing
- Students majoring in nursing can choose to live on this floor as long as they meet the class requirements.
Students who select a room in a Living Learning Community must be eligible for that community. Ineligible students will be reassigned to a different room.
